SODEC Conducts Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony (Silanyash) for New Safehouse Building in Khandbari

Khandbari, Sankhuwasabha — Marking a major step forward in community safety and protection, SODEC officially conducted the foundation stone-laying ceremony (Silanyash) for a new Safehouse building in Khandbari on Kartik 2, 2080 (October 19, 2023).

The event brought together SODEC team members, local leaders, and community representatives to perform the traditional commencement rituals and launch construction on the dedicated shelter site.

Providing Protection and Shelter for Vulnerable Individuals

Establishing a functional safehouse in Khandbari addresses a critical need in Sankhuwasabha district. The safehouse will serve as a secure, confidential, and supportive sanctuary for survivors of gender-based violence, domestic abuse, and individuals requiring temporary emergency protection.

Key Objectives of the Safehouse Initiative:

  • Emergency Shelter & Protection: Offering immediate, safe accommodation to women, children, and individuals in crisis.
  • Comprehensive Support Services: Providing a centralized venue for temporary relief, counseling support, legal assistance coordination, and referral services.
  • Community Resilience: Strengthening local social safety networks and ensuring vulnerable individuals have access to dignity, safety, and care.

Moving Construction Forward

With the formal Silanyash completed, construction work on the safehouse facility is officially underway. SODEC remains dedicated to completing the facility to expand its protection infrastructure and ensure long-term support for communities across the district.
